SEALING OF THE MAIN RUNWAY
ØRSTA-VOLDA AIRPORT
Sealing with Colas Active Sealing completed in 2 days
Colas sealed a surface of 35,000 m2 at Ørsta-Volda Airport in June 2018. The work was completed in two days.
Colas Active Sealing is particularly suitable for airports and pavements with high requirements for friction. The special sealing stops the degradation of the asphalt pavement and regenerates the flexibility and adhesive properties of the binder.
Sealing extends the service life of the aspalt
The Airport in Ørsta-Volda wanted to extend the service life of a surface of dense asphalt concrete with milled drainage grooves from 2008. Before sealing the main runway, we thoroughly cleaned the runway with a high-pressure washer. The process loosens and removes dirt and leaves the surface clean and ready for sealing.
Subsequently, the surface was treated with our special sealing, spread on the area by machine and hand sprayer to ensure that the quality was top notch. Finally, we spread fine stone flour on the newly sealed area. Stone flour helps to rebuild the lost mortar that holds together the stones.

Colas Active Sealing has a maintenance contract with Avinor A/S. Avinor A/S is responsible for 45 airports in Norway. So far, we have helped to improve and extend the life of pavements at over 20 airports.
